More than Museum Quality cameo depictinga Victorian gentleman or a nobleman, the carving is more than superb. Look at the beauty of the facial features, he seems alive. The frame completes the beauty of this cameo, black enamel makes it a real rare find. Cameo is scratched on the back with the date and the signature of the artist. We can read "1880 Filippo Tignani, Engraver, Rome, Via Condotti, 91" .We have not too much news about the carver. He was a contemporary of Saulinis and had his shop in Rome just close to the one of Saulini. The scratch can be seen by removing the glazed compartment o the back. This is one of most beautiful cameo I have ever handled, the pictures speak by themselves. This is another masterly carved cameo. A very desirable collectors piece, rare and museum quality cameo.
The gentleman portrayed in the cameo recalls me an important historical character (maybe a politician) but I can't remind who he can be. If anyone is able to know his identity please email me, thanks for your attention.
