This is a museum quality French hardstone oval brooch, centred by a carved cut out cameo portrait of a young lady, probably a Muse or a Nymph, in profile turned to dexter, her long curled hair around her neck, within a border of mistletoe leaves centred by open back collet set rose cut diamonds and facetted rubies. A wonderful real jewel. Circa 1860, this is a real artwork. The frame is something of incredible too, 18 K gold marked with the French hallmark for the gold, an eagle's head, mark is on the pin. Diamonds in old cut and rubies for circa 0.50 ct. This is an incredible work of art, very detailed cameo, and rarest one carved by an artist. Rarest cameo and subject very desirable collectors' piece.
